Wastewater Infrastructure JBS – Hydroflux
Project Description:
Full-service commercial concreting including bulk and detailed excavation, reinforcement, formwork, placement, and finish of concrete.
Project details
Terazzo was engaged to provide a full-service package for footings, beams, and structural raft slab for new wastewater infrastructure at JBS Dinmore meatworks.
This included overflow and stormwater drainage and sumps, correctly installed to specification in accordance with legislative wastewater treatment requirements. The slab was completed in a low-lying area of the site next to a lake, therefore ground conditions were not optimal. The design, therefore, included steel screw piers (completed by others). Works commenced at the end of 2021 and were finalised in early 2022.
What were the challenges?
The main challenges on this project involved extremes of weather. Severe heat at the back of the site with minimal shade made construction difficult, especially as the concrete was a special 50MPa mix and therefore not ideal to be poured in hot conditions. Also, regular rain stoppages presented additional constraints.
How did Terazzo solve these challenges?
We scheduled pours at 4am to avoid the worst of the heat. We also used vacuum excavators prior to pouring to suck rainwater from the bottom of the screw piers required due to the low-lying, wet conditions.
Project result
Operational challenges were overcome, and the Save-All treatment System foundation was installed according to all required specifications.
