Murrumba Downs Sewerage Treatment Plant – Dewatering Building
Project Description
Terazzo completed a services construction of concrete slabs, walls, columns, stairs, bunds, plinths, block walls and roadway, including all formwork and steel fixing.
Project Details
Our role was to supply, place and finish all formwork, reinforcement and concrete to all aspects of the dewatering building. This included the preparation and pouring of adjacent roadway.
The project included slab falls to pre-formed sumps, 1.4m high walls, 2.4m high columns, as well as access stairs and plinths.
What were the challenges?
Working to Unity Water’s specification provided some challenges, due to the current state of supply of concrete and inability to obtain sufficient testing resources for a lot of pours in order to meet their specification.
We also encountered some errors in the reinforcement scheduling, which presented some issues and down time sticking to design and program.
How did Terazzo solve these challenges?
In conjunction with the client, Murrumba Downs Sewerage Treatment Plant, we agreed to source external contractors to undertake the materials testing and compliance (ie. not the concrete suppliers themselves) who were significantly more reliable.
Further, we made some modifications to reinforcement design, in conjunction with the Unity Water engineer. This also meant some manual bending/cutting/modifications to the reinforcement.
Project outcome
Important upgrades to the plant were made in the context of challenging circumstances and delivered with high-quality outcomes.
